COURTNEY + ROBBIE

PHOTOGRAPHY   |  WEDDINGS WITH RYAL

Courtney and Robbie have known each other since they were little kids. Robbie’s mum used to babysit Courtney and her twin sister, and her son and Courtney later went to primary school together, with Robbie one year ahead. They rekindled the friendship in high school when Courtney was 16 and Robbie was 17. Robbie asked Courtney to be his girlfriend on February 18, 2011, by taking her out for dinner and giving her a red rose.

The proposal was February 12, 2021, when the couple went on a long weekend trip to Halls Gap. This was the moment when Robbie and their much-loved Golden Retriever Osher proposed to Courtney – Robbie got down on one knee and Osher sat next to him with the ring box in his mouth.

Courtney decided to simplify the wedding planning process by choosing a venue that had the ceremony, the reception food and the drinks in one place and this is why they fell in love with Merne at Lighthouse. They liked everything, from the ceremony location surrounded by tall gum trees to the canapés on the front lawn amongst the olive trees. After choosing the location they chose the date – February 18 as this was also their twelfth anniversary.

They then locked in the major vendors. Kahani as celebrant because she was kind and chill and that was the vibe they wanted and Ryal as photographer because Courtney was very keen on having him after a previous successful collaboration. Bec from Studio Scruples was Courtney’s natural choice for hairstyling as she had been her client of hers for 16 years. Twin sister Andrea helped Courtney throughout the process, considering that in November the couple’s first daughter, Imogen, was born and Courtney already had her hands full.

The 107-guest wedding was styled with whites and neutrals (white orchids, white cake with orchids on it, white and neutral outfits). Courtney designed her dress which featured an organza skirt with 10 metres of fabric which was taken off for the reception. Immi wore a Jacadi dress complemented by a beautiful bow made by Courtney’s mom, thus completely stealing the show. Bridesmaids wore a blush, Shona Joy dress which they all looked stunning in and Andrea was the maid of honour. Robbie wore a neutral/stone full suit, while the groomsmen wore chinos.

The most memorable moment was the first look shared between the bride and the groom before walking down the aisle. Their next favourite moments were having time with their daughter, having their bridal party photos taken and chatting to those who attended their wedding. The most important thing on Courtney and Robbie’s special day was enjoying the reception – they took every moment in and danced the night away, barely leaving the dancefloor.

Courtney and Robbie advise engaged couples to book their favourite vendors early so they can enjoy the planning process afterwards. Their venue was amazing at coordinating the day which made things a lot easier for the couple. Being organised means you can have a lot more fun and forget about the stress.
