Delaney and Jared met at the Aireys pub. It was Jared’s friend Blake that actually introduced them because Jared was apparently too intimidated to talk to Delaney. They chatted all night and then they dated for a couple of months before he asked her to be his girlfriend, to which Delaney replied “Is this a joke?” as it was April Fools’ Day. Jared replied he could ask her to be his girlfriend the next day, but Delaney said “No, it’s fine”. 6 years later they got married on April Fool’s Day. But there is more – Jared asked Delaney to be his girlfriend on April Fool’s Day, they married on April Fool’s Day, and the proposal was also on April Fool’s Day!
Jared popped the big question during a little getaway in Ocean Grove. Delaney was very surprised when Jared got down on one knee but she couldn’t have been happier. He had told her to come outside as he had something to show her and all Delaney could hear was wild animals so she was freaking out and didn’t want to go outside. However, she was glad she did as Jared was on one knee; she had already said yes before he even asked “Will you marry me?”
Delaney and Jared only had one year to plan as they wanted to get married as soon as they could but only on April Fools’ Day to keep the funny tradition going. So, the date was non-negotiable which gave them a couple of hurdles as most places were booked out that weekend. Delaney’s mum was a huge help as mother and daughter planned everything together, so she was basically Delaney’s wedding planner. They got the reception, photography and celebrant booked first, and then worked out the rest from there.
Delaney and Jared wanted a venue that had character and didn’t really need decorating, so they chose Last One Inn in Anglesea. Of course, they had a few hiccups during the planning process, but Delaney’s mum was a huge help in supporting her daughter and future son-in-law with the whole process. They ended up having 90 guests with a few people from New Zealand and America which Delaney and Jared really appreciated them coming so far for their special day.
This lovely couple wanted their wedding to be just like them, fun and bubbly. They wanted fun colourful flowers for the wedding and Delaney ended up finding some amazing huge flowers about 1.5 m tall which they used at the altar and as a backdrop for the reception.
Delaney’s wedding dress had multiple looks. It was a custom gown which had layered tulle with detachable pearl sleeves. The bottom half of the dress came off so it left the bride with a mini tulle party dress which is exactly what she wanted for the dance floor. Her bouquet was also wrapped up in Jared’s late mother’s veil as a surprise for him but also as a way for her to be a part of the couple’s special day.
Jared’s classic suit was custom-made for him and had his late mother’s initials embroidered onto it.
Delaney and Jared were thrilled to be seeing a room full of people who they love, being there and supporting them on their big day. Seeing everyone getting along and dancing together was a sight to see. This is why their words of wisdom for newly engaged couples include advice to enjoy the big day and take it all in. Everyone says the day goes by quickly and this is totally true! Just create the wedding that you want and you’ll have the best day!
