REAL WEDDING

GEORGIA + CHRIS

Georgia and Chris met when they were just nine years old, meeting at a caravan park in Phillip Island where their families camped each summer. They quickly became friends, staying connected year-round through MSN and phone calls, despite living in different cities  – Chris in Geelong and Georgia in Melbourne. By October 2008, at the age of 13, Chris asked Georgia to be his girlfriend, and their relationship has flourished ever since. After years of long-distance dating, they finally moved in together in 2020 and, in a beautiful turn of events, married on their 15th anniversary.

Chris’s proposal in June 2021 was heartfelt and intimate, taking place between COVID lockdowns in Melbourne. Despite a hiccup with a restaurant booking, Chris guided Georgia to the Williamstown rotunda, where their dog, Ollie, awaited with a bandana asking, “Will you marry my dad?” Chris dropped to one knee, and amidst tears and laughter, Georgia said yes. The moment was captured by their loved ones, who were hiding nearby to celebrate the surprise.

Although they initially didn’t plan to rush into wedding preparations, Melbourne’s lockdowns gave them time to plan. Knowing Geelong, Chris’s hometown, would be the perfect place, they booked Mount Duneed Estate as their venue, despite not being able to visit in person due to restrictions. The team at Mount Duneed Estate was incredibly accommodating, giving them virtual tours and answering every question, making it clear this was the ideal location for their special day.

With Chris handling the food, drinks, and entertainment, Georgia focused on the design elements. Their chosen accent colour, green, was inspired by the venue’s olive groves, and was woven into everything from the stationery and florals to the bridal party attire. They worked closely with Elderberry Events to create stunning white florals paired with abundant greenery, giving the space a fresh, natural look.

Georgia’s dress, a timeless Mikado fabric gown with a long train and a thigh-high slit to show off her Jimmy Choo shoes, was a dream come true. Custom pockets added both practicality and charm. For Chris, beige jackets paired with black chino pants and green ties created a stylish yet comfortable look for him and his groomsmen.

Their wedding ceremony was deeply personal. Their celebrant, Sue Warner, crafted a touching and humorous ceremony, which was performed by their long-time friend, Jem Moore. Including their bridal party’s personal thoughts on their relationship made the ceremony not just emotional but also a highlight for all their guests. Ollie, their beloved dog, even made an appearance, vocalising his excitement during the ceremony.

The reception was a lively celebration, just as they had hoped. After wrapping up the formalities  the party kicked off with their first dance to Tina Turner’s “The Best.” Cal Young kept the dancefloor alive all night, with Frankie Says Sax, who joined the DJ to elevate the energy even more. The result was an unforgettable evening full of dancing, laughter, and love.

Georgia and Chris’s advice for future couples is simple – enjoy the process. Work with vendors and a venue that make the planning experience fun, and remember the wedding is ultimately a celebration of your love.
