Hannah and Josh met on a dating app and had a rather unusual first date, with Josh’s cricket mates showing up after hearing he had left training early for a date. To add insult to injury they were all wearing Josh’s Hawaiian party shirts. Even so, Josh left a good impression on Hannah as a second date soon followed.

The proposal was equally unconventional as it happened during very bad weather with torrential rain, wind, and power outages. It was October 2021 and despite the ongoing storm, Josh and Hannah decided to go for a walk to celebrate not having to wear pandemic masks outside anymore. Josh had wanted to propose at the top of the steps at the beach in Ocean Grove but Hannah walked off as it was too windy. However, Josh didn’t waste a single moment and a few minutes later, while walking along the beach, got down on one knee and popped the question. There was nobody around to hear Hannah’s joyous “Yes!” because the weather was just too rough for most people to be out.

Josh continued to use his excellent logistics and organisational skills during the wedding planning process and helped with the creative side of things such as wedding style and signage. Luckily, their wedding was not interrupted by the pandemic and they were also very lucky to secure a date with Marry Me Becky B, a celebrant from Hannah’s hometown in the Wimmera.

The 100-guest wedding took place at the Barwon Heads Golf Club where stunning fields of green, tea trees, and beachy shrubs provided the perfect backdrop to the ceremony. The venue matched perfectly the wedding style which Hannah describes as “simple, classic and modern”. A beautifully-crafted detail of the wedding was the dried paper daisies on the table that were cultivated and harvested by Hannah’s mum and aunt. The dry flowers perfectly complemented the fresh flowers from Blooms Rock and also matched the colour palette of the delicious Oh Em G It’s Gluten Free cake.

Hannah looked stunning in her ‘Ada’ gown by & for Love, a simple and elegant dress with a touch of fun due to its big puffy sleeves. The bare back outfit was made complete by the Forever Soles shoes and the Amelie George Bridal earrings. Hannah’s hair was done by Danielle Parsons and Abby from Style Bar and Laura Dibiagio Makeup Artistry & Ruby Tuesday were behind the makeup. The rest of the outfits at the wedding were both comfortable and festive, with John standing out from the crowd with a black and white polka dot bow tie accessorising his Eddy Elias suit. Hannah’s sister was 7 months pregnant at the time, so Hannah decided to let everyone choose their own style to feel comfortable, especially while dancing to beats by Dave Van Elst DJ.

The couple’s dog Kevin was present both for the proposal and the wedding and he was being cared for by Ellie from the Wedding Sitter. Their best companion was there to keep Hannah calm before the ceremony, to entertain guests, and to witness the most memorable moment of the ceremony – the vows speaking about the couple’s lifelong commitment in front of their friends and family.

But how did Josh and Hannah manage to keep their wedding planning smooth? The secret, according to the happy bride, was to delegate jobs according to strengths and preferences. At the same time, the bride and the groom should be on the same page when it comes to the most important aspects of the planning – a valuable piece of advice that the couple would like to share with every engaged couple who is working on their wedding.
