REAL WEDDING
KARLY + DAVID

In the scorching heat of a 43-degree Melbourne summer day six years ago, fate decided to play a little game of chance. It was at the Groove Bar at Crown Melbourne where Karly and David’s story began. David’s apartment’s air conditioning had given up on him and he and his housemate Jarrod found refuge at Crown to beat the heat. Little did they know that this moment would set the stage for a remarkable journey.
As the day unfolded, the duo’s luck took a spin, quite literally, at the roulette table. After some wins, they strutted into Groove Bar, dressed in their laid-back summer attire of boardshorts and thongs, pockets a little heavier thanks to their unexpected gambling success.
Meanwhile, Karly, accompanied by her mum and a friend, entered the bar and took a seat near the guys. The ambience was set, laughter filled the air, friendly banter ensued and destiny took its course.
Fast forward to the present day, after the trials and tribulations of a cancelled first birthday celebration due to the pandemic, David decided to pop the big question at their daughter’s second birthday, surrounded by their loved ones. It was a heartwarming moment that marked the beginning of their journey toward the wedding of their dreams.
Choosing Ocean Grove as their wedding destination was a natural choice as it held a special place in their hearts. It was the site of their very first weekend getaway together during a winter retreat. With its stunning renovation, the Dunes seemed like the perfect place to exchange vows.
Their wedding planning journey was made smooth by the remarkable team of vendors they assembled. Maddy and Steph at The Dunes brought their creative visions to life, while Shannon, their DJ and MC, ensured every detail was meticulously organised. Photographer Laura captured their special day beautifully, while videographers Michael and Angela made everyone feel at ease.
The entertainment, featuring an acoustic duo and saxophonist, elevated the celebration to new heights. The couple’s florist, Erin, crafted breathtaking arrangements that complemented the stunning views.
With more than 115 guests, Karly and David’s indoor winter wedding exuded a luxurious, moody ambience. They opted for a cocktail-style event, keeping the party spirit alive throughout the night. From champagne and cocktails to oysters and various gourmet delights, the celebration was tailored to their unique style.
As the evening unfolded, Karly and David’s joy was palpable. They cherished the moments spent with their bridal party, capturing the essence of their friendship. Watching their loved one’s dance to the saxophone’s melodic tunes was a dream come true.
Their advice to couples planning their own weddings is simple. Make it unique, make it you. Plan a day that reflects your personalities and interests. If possible, consider a destination wedding for a weekend-long celebration. Finding the right celebrant, someone who can tell your love story authentically, is also key to a memorable day.
In the end, Karly and David’s wedding was a testament to love, chance encounters and the magic of crafting a day that truly reflects who you are as a couple. It was a day they, along with their friends and family, will cherish forever.
