LEAH + JAKE

PHOTOGRAPHY   |  WEDDINGS WITH RYAL

Leah and Jake met in 2016 at the Inn Hotel Geelong in the very early hours of Christmas Day. Leah’s first impression was that he was tall, hot and had good banter, while Jake described Leah to his mates as an 11/10. Their banter was aligned and instantly on the same level and the connection was easy, light and fun from the start.

After three years of relationship, talks about the future became more frequent and Leah joked about proposing to Jake. He told her he would say no because he wanted to do it and Leah said that if Jake did a flash mob, she would say no.

Jake decided to propose after moving back to Geelong having lived in Melbourne for four years, to mark the start of their forever life together. As they walked along Bancoora Beach, their fur baby Chloe, a Hungarian Vizsla, relieved itself. Suddenly Leah became fixated on the idea that she may be proposed to whilst holding a bag of poo so she did a quick, but ultimately very long, dash to the bin.

When Leah returned, they walked on and after a couple of hundred metres Jake found his moment and spoke from the heart. Leah giggled the whole way through and as soon as he said ‘Will you marry me?’ Leah just started saying ‘I knew it, I knew it, I knewww ittt!’ over and over again, so much so that Jake had to ask if the answer was actually yes.

The wedding planning process started the morning after the engagement. The first steps were deciding on the guest list, 80 people, and choosing the suppliers based on recommendations from friends.  Choosing iconic venue At The Heads was a no-brainer because Barwon Heads is a very special place for the couple –  their favourite place to go for a coffee and beach walk with their dog.

Jake and Leah describe their wedding as elegant, simple and timeless but modern. The venue itself already provided a beautiful space – the floor, the ceiling windows out on the water which created the most stunning backdrop, the exposed beams, the wooden floors and the fairy lights. The florist did a stunning beam arrangement which was a standout feature, so the bride and the groom decided to keep the tables relatively simple with only a few vases with white florals, white napkins, individualised menus and greenery.

Bridesmaids wore dresses that were earthy, golden, floor-length with a single split, wide straps and a square neck for a very elegant and sophisticated look. The groomsmen wore black tuxedoes with a subtle difference of black shirt buttons for the groom and white for the groomsmen.

The bride was fortunate enough to have a custom-made dress from SoHo Bride from their Chasing The Sun Bridal range. Leah wanted to go for something that she would also love in 10, 20 or 50 years’ time. This is why she went for a design that was timeless but modern – an elegant V-neck and back, full skirt and a medium train in ivory crepe. The dress had a single split and also had pockets that facilitated some amazing twirling photos and some unique moves on the dance floor. The dress had some beautiful detailed pearl buttons down the back matching the beautiful pearl-lined shoes from HARLO shoes and the pearl earrings dangling from a golden infinity knot from A.B.ELLIE.

As the dress was simple but elegant, Leah decided to go a little extra with the veil and she wore a long spot tulle veil making a modern statement with the perfect amount of texture. The bride also chose a classic hairstyle with a pulled back, low bun and natural make up to complete the look.

The most memorable moment of the wedding was the vows where it felt to Leah and Jake that they were the only two in the room. It was a declaration of love and taking a lifelong commitment.

For Leah and Jake their wedding was a chance to gather all the special people in their lives in one place. Their secrets for a successful event include locking in the main suppliers early, spending money on what you value, not sweating the small stuff and staying true to yourselves and what you want for the day.
