Maddy and Josh’s story began in London, where they met as flatmates while on their two-year holiday visas. What started as an easy, natural friendship soon turned into something more as they traveled across Europe together. But it wasn’t until they both returned home — Maddy to Australia and Josh to New Zealand — that they finally admitted their feelings.

After a few visits, a dozen red roses on Valentine’s Day, and a holiday together, Maddy took the leap and moved to New Zealand. “We haven’t looked back since!” she says.

Josh proposed on January 2, 2023, at sunset on Torquay Beach, one of Maddy’s favuorite places. Visiting Australia over the holidays, Josh had planned a surprise getaway and set up the perfect proposal with a relaxed beach picnic — takeaway, beers, and the sound of the waves. “It was my dream date night and dream proposal,” Maddy shares. Having her family close by to celebrate made the moment even more special.

Planning a wedding from New Zealand was a breeze with a two-year engagement. Wanting a venue that captured both their love for the ocean and elements of Josh’s countryside upbringing, they knew Jack Rabbit was the perfect spot the moment they saw its breathtaking coastal views. “We stayed on top of things by ticking tasks off each month,” Maddy explains, making the whole process stress-free.
