MOLLY + JACKO

PHOTOGRAPHY   |  LULU AND LIME

Molly and Jacko met in February 2016 through Molly’s best mate Steve. She was living in Melbourne at the time working as a nurse. Steve convinced Molly to come down to Geelong for a drink and meet his new mate Jacko. They all went to a local restaurant that night and hung out as friends. A week later, Molly and Jacko had their first kiss at a Geelong nightclub and since then they have spoken every day. Molly eventually moved back to Geelong and the couple ended up living together. They have two golden retrievers named Loki and Lilo. Molly continues to work as a nurse and Jacko is a commercial roof plumber.

In March 2022, Molly and Jacko became engaged in Noosa at the Laguna Lookout. Although they had heavily discussed marriage and knew it was on the horizon, Jacko managed to surprise Molly. He had told her at the airport that she wouldn’t be getting a ring as he thought proposing on a holiday was “expected and cliché”. However, he still got down on one knee at the Lookout and Molly immediately said yes. They consider it a beautiful spot and plan to revisit it in the future.

The couple always knew they wanted a winter wedding held indoors. They didn’t want to deal with the stress of unpredictable weather so they opted for something different. Molly had organised a friend’s hen’s party at The Warehouse in Geelong – a space she fell in love with. The owners, Yolanda and Darren, were great to deal with and Molly knew it would provide the intimate winter feel they desired. They also booked The Heights for their green, garden-themed photos. Molly’s parents had their wedding photos taken there and it served as inspiration for her own wedding.

Molly was very organised from the start and didn’t shop around too much for vendors. She relied on reviews from people close to her or personal recommendations. For example, her celebrant, Kate, is a nurse she works with, Tori who did her stationery is a best friend of one of her friends, and Olivia, her stylist, was recommended by a friend. Yolanda and Darren suggested popular food vans for the reception and Peony and Weasel, where Molly had previously bought flowers, was chosen as the florist. Amelia, who did Molly’s hair, had previously styled her for another wedding. Molly hired vendors based on their lovely personalities and had no regrets or dramas with any of them.

Their wedding had 147 guests with Jacko’s involvement in various sports and their large families contributing to the guest count. They embraced the ‘go big or go home’ mentality and wouldn’t have had it any other way.

The couple’s vision for the wedding was candlelit, cosy and romantic. They enlisted the help of Olivia, their stylist, to bring their vision to life. The room was adorned with olive and champagne/nude streamers and simple flowers. They had candles lining the large tables, bar and bar tables. Molly wanted ‘one million candles’ and even had candles at their feet during the ceremony -despite the fire risk. As a personal touch they provided guests with stubby holders featuring pictures of their dogs, Loki and Lilo, in olive green to match the décor.

Molly wanted to look elegant and modern next to Jacko, so she chose a black tuxedo for him. Her own dress from Mariana Hardwick was the only one that made her say “wow.” It was heavy but stunning and she wore it despite its weight. The bridesmaids wore olive green to match the winter vibe.

There were a couple of memorable moments from the wedding. One being Molly’s dad accidentally stepping on her veil and almost pulling her backward, creating a funny moment that lightened the mood. Another was when Molly slipped on her dress during the ceremony, despite specifically telling Jacko not to spin her. These unexpected incidents brought laughter and reduced the stress of the day.

Their main goal for the wedding was for everyone to have fun. They wanted a beautiful ceremony but they also prioritised having a fantastic night. They hired DJ Cal Young early on, knowing he would get the dancefloor going. They made sure there was plenty of food and all the reviews confirmed that it was perfect.

Looking back on the experience, Molly advises future couples to enjoy the ride. She emphasises that the process was enjoyable, especially because all their vendors were great to work with. She also recommends keeping things simple and not being afraid of the weather. When it started to rain during their wedding, they embraced it and took some memorable photos with umbrellas outside The Warehouse.

Overall, Molly and Jacko’s wedding was simple yet effective, creating a beautiful and fun-filled celebration of their love.
