RANISHA + DANIEL

Ranisha and Daniel embarked on their journey to marital bliss, their love story initiated by a modern-day twist — finding each other online. However, explaining this to Ranisha’s conservative parents remains an amusing challenge.

The proposal unfolded in the breathtaking setting of an Alaskan cruise in October. Plans for a heli-tour and glacier climb were thwarted by bad weather, redirecting the couple to a glacial bay. Amid drizzly cold, an unexpected burst of sunshine during lunch prompted Daniel to pop the question, creating a unique and memorable moment against the scenic backdrop.

Initially eyeing their hometown of Cairns for the wedding, logistical challenges led them to consider Torquay, where Daniel’s family resides. A spontaneous weekend visit resulted in the selection of Jack Rabbit Vineyard, a venue boasting stunning ocean and city skyline views.

Despite the perceived difficulty of planning a wedding from a different state, the couple found each vendor accommodating and seamless to work with, harmonising efforts with the wedding coordinator at Jack Rabbit.

Their guest list of 105 included Cairns locals and Sri Lankan attendees, transforming the celebration into a destination wedding. The inspiration for the wedding style drew from Instagram and spring-themed weddings with vibrant pinks, purples and peaches adorning both flowers and reception decor.

Conscious of the venue’s natural beauty, the couple opted for a plain white arbour and plinths to ensure the decor complimented rather than overshadowed Jack Rabbit’s scenic vistas. The groomsmen sported timeless tuxedos, chosen for their versatility.

Selecting a colour for the bridesmaids proved challenging but black emerged as the perfect choice, complimenting the groomsmen’s attire.

Ranisha’s wedding gown reflected a blend of Western elegance and Sri Lankan tradition, featuring an overskirt reminiscent of a Kandian wedding saree. The ensemble, brought to life by a talented seamstress and adorned with traditional jewellery from Sri Lanka, encapsulated her vision seamlessly.

Among the myriad cherished moments, a post-sunset interlude in an open field stands out, offering the couple a quiet moment to reflect on the day’s whirlwind. The celebration itself was marked by an unwavering commitment to be present, dancing the night away with friends and family.

As their wedding unfolded, Ranisha and Daniel discovered that it’s alright not to have all the answers from the start. Amidst varied opinions, their advice is simple – do what feels right for you two and let the magic unfold.
