REAL WEDDING

STEPHANIE + ROB

PHOTOGRAPHY   |  WEDDINGS WITH RYAL

In the two years they have known each other, the couple has passed many relationship milestones including the wedding of their dreams.

It all started during Covid-19. While in one of Melbourne’s lockdown breaks, Stephanie was invited along on her friend’s date to meet the roommate. His name was Rob and the connection was instant. Since then the couple hasn’t wasted any time – booking holidays, buying a house and on Valentine’s Day 2022, getting engaged.

Stephanie thought they were simply going on a romantic date because who would do something so cliché as proposing on Valentine’s Day? But Rob was not about to let the day go to waste. He took Stephanie to Torquay beach for a sunset picnic and popped the question.

Never ones to waste time, the wedding date was set and Stephanie and Rob had 10 months to plan. Both were clear on what mattered to them for their day and this helped the planning process and how best to allocate funds. Stephanie and Rob love a party so music was key and with Rob’s European heritage, quality and quantity of food was important.

With these factors in mind the couple chose 1915 as their venue, with large open space to fit their 122 guests. Canape-style food circulated throughout the night while people mingled and danced.

The venue also set the style of the wedding – dark and moody with a warehouse vibe.

The couple knew they wanted to have as much time as possible with each other and with their guests and to not spend a whole day getting ready and waiting. They arranged a First Look which provided the perfect opportunity to share some quiet time and capture most of the day’s photos. It also helped to manage some pre-wedding jitters.

For her gown Stephanie selected an art deco-style by Zavana Couture with beading and a nude underlay. Her bridesmaid wore a dusty rose silk dress. The groom’s party were classically dressed in black suits that were simple yet smart.

When the newlyweds arrived at the reception the party kicked into gear – just as they’d hoped – with everyone singing, dancing, eating and having a ball. At one point Stephanie and Rob were lifted onto the shoulders of their guests, turning the night into a true celebration.

For couples beginning to plan their wedding, Stephanie believes a wedding planner is well worth the money if you can afford it. But most importantly, choose the three things that matter most to you and make your day about that. Finally, don’t let stress blur your memory. Enjoy the moment and be present so you can hold onto the day for a lifetime.
