TALKING WITH THE EXPERTS

JESSICA ANDERSON

CREW FACED MAKEUP ARTISTRY

What is the secret to creating bridal hair and makeup that looks flawless from the ceremony to the final dance?

The secret to flawless Bridal Hair and Makeup from the ceremony to the final dance is firstly skin prep. Makeup will always sit best on skin that is hydrated and free from blemishes. Working on your skin 6-12 months before the big day will help ensure that touch-ups are minimal.

Secondly, a touch-up kit that you know how to use throughout the event. Our touch-up kits have been carefully considered to keep your makeup and hair flawless and we teach our brides how to touch up with the kit on the day.

What advice do you have for brides preparing for their hair and makeup trial?

Advice for brides to prepare for the trial is to wear white to help envisage the tone of your makeup for the big day. Being open to a hairstyle that will make your hair look its best is helpful and if you should consider adding extensions for volume/length.

How do you tailor each bridal look to reflect a bride’s individual style and personality?

With a strong education in colour theory, I will tailor each bride’s makeup to select colours that are scientifically suited to their complexion and tone. Other points that will contribute to the colour selection includes flowers, jewellery and tan.

With more than 20 years of experience, what have you learned about helping brides feel relaxed on the wedding morning?

I have learned a few tips on keeping a bride relaxed on the big day. This may include a separate room for the bridal application if there are people included in the day who have a different energy. Food and drinks are a must, as is temperature control and someone who is aware of the timeline and can handle the bride’s phone. Reading the bride’s energy helps to know when it’s time to offer a hand massage, drink or fresh air – just to switch things up. The bridal hair and makeup is always second last, to ensure there is time for touch ups before leaving.

The beauty trend that will always be in style is fresh faced and glowing. The big day is not the time for a fierce wing or red lip if this is not something you’d normally do.

What bridal beauty trend are you loving now and what timeless look will always be in style?

Lastly, staying the night before at the place you are getting ready will help alleviate any last minute transport issues of everything you’ll need on the day – or may forget. Setting up a space in natural light and with power for the hair and makeup team ensures best application and photos. Keep the kitchen free – having access to food and drinks that aren’t overrun by the team helps keep spaces clean, tidy and accessible.
